Manmohan vows to locate missing coal files

All papers related to coal block allocation that are not traceable will be located and given to CBI within time stipulated by the Supreme Court, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

If the government is unable to locate the papers, a report will be filed with the CBI for proper probe, Dr. Singh added.

Dr. Singh was making a statement in the Rajya Sabha on the issue of missing files relating to allocation of coal blocks.

Members should not draw hasty conclusions that there is something fishy and efforts are underway to locate all papers requisitioned by the CBI, the Prime Minister said.

The BJP has been demanding for a statement from the Prime Minister, who earlier held the coal portfolio from 2006 to 2009 when the coal blocks were allocated.

The main opposition wanted Dr. Singh’s response on Tuesday itself as the Prime Minister leaves for St. Petersburg for the G20 Summit on Wednesday.
